Male breast reduction is one of the cosmetic surgeries that we perform at Body by Bloch. Male breast enlargement is an abnormal condition known as gynecomastia that can occur at any age. This condition is caused by some factors that include hormonal changes, hereditary, obesity or the use of certain drugs. This breast overdevelopment may be on one or both breasts. At Body by Bloch, we have successfully helped many male patients achieve a more masculine contour by giving them permanent results. To book a consultation with us go to www.bodybybloch.com or call us at 847-432-0840.

HOW IS MALE BREAST REDUCTION LIKE?
To treat enlarged male breasts, we normally use excision or liposuction or a combination of both. Before the procedure, we will give you general anesthesia that completely puts you to sleep or local anesthesia which numbs your breasts together with intravenous sedation to relax you.
For excess fat, liposuction will work best. In liposuction technique, several tiny incisions will be made in your breasts through which tiny tubes called cannulas are inserted. By moving the cannula back and forth, fat will be loosened and vacuumed out. Incisions will then be sutured and dressed.
Excision is used for extra skin or glandular tissue that is causing the enlargement. Various incision patterns may be used depending on your condition. In the treatment, we will reduce the size of the areola and elevate the nipple to a more natural level. Incisions will be stitched, and tiny drainage tubes inserted to drain out blood and fluids from the incision sites.
Both excision and liposuction techniques may, however, be combined for maximum male contouring.
Recovering from gynecomastia surgery
After surgery, you may have breast pain that is normal; we normally prescribe pain medication to cater for that and antibiotics for infection control. Bruising will disappear after 2-3 weeks and often changes color from reddish to yellow as it heals. You need to avoid strenuous tasks for the next 4 to 6 weeks. After seven days, we will remove your dressings, stitches and drains and schedule another evaluation visit. You, however, need to wear a compression garment for several weeks to ease the swelling. Avoid direct sunshine on your chest until swelling and bruising subside. It may take up to 3 months until you see your final results.
How long will my results last?
Gynecomastia surgical results are permanent, assuming your weight is stable. If your condition arose from the use of medication or anabolic steroids, further use could lead to recurrence.

For safety, as well as the most beautiful and healthy outcome, it’s important to return to your plastic surgeon’s office for follow-up evaluation at prescribed times and whenever you notice any changes.
