Botox – Have Your Facial Wrinkles and Deep Folds Corrected

When the natural aging process results to visible wrinkles and lines on your face, you may want to have Botox treatment because it can help restore your youthful looks temporarily. Botox is mainly botulinum toxin that is injected into certain facial muscles responsible for most facial wrinkles and deep folds. Botox injections will relax those muscles and therefore reduce the wrinkles and lines caused by the activity of those muscles. Botox is a drug that has been used for various treatments since 1960s. It is now approved by the FDA for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and lines.

Is Botox treatment for you?

If you have facial wrinkles and lines including frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, smile lines and marionette lines, botulinum toxin injections can work for you. However, during your consultation with Dr. Bloch, you should tell him if you have any type of allergy or are using any anti-inflammatory medications. You should also tell the doctor if you have received other treatments based on botulinum toxin or if you plan to have surgery.

How Is a Botox Procedure Done?

Getting Botox takes only a few minutes and doesn’t require anesthesia. Botox is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort.

It generally takes three to seven days to take full effect, and it is best to avoid alcohol starting at least one week before the procedure. You should also stop taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications two weeks before treatment to reduce bruising.

After the Procedure

After the injections, the patient will usually lay upright or semiupright on the exam table for about two to five minutes to make sure he or she feels good after the procedure, and then the patient should avoid lying down for two to four hours. If bruising is a concern, it will be important for the patient to avoid taking aspirinor related products, such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve), if possible after the procedure to keep bruising to a minimum.

How long will your results last?

After receiving your Botox injections, it takes about a week to see the best results you can get. Botox treatment results are temporary and can last for about 6 months. After that period, you should have repeat treatment procedures performed to maintain your results. Because you still continue to age and your body’s response to botulinum toxin injections will gradually reduce over time, the results of each repeat treatment will keep lasting less and less longer than before.
