Breast Revision in the Chicago Metro Area– Get Correctional Surgery for Your Breast Implants

Do you wish to restore your youthful contour after a breast augmentation? If so, breast revision could help. Breast revision is also known as breast implant replacement. This is cosmetic surgery carried out after a primary breast augmentation to improve the breast appearance or to stop the progress of health complications arising from breast implants. In the procedure, saline or silicone implants are removed and may or may not be replaced with new ones. Other improvements may include enhancing the size of your breasts or getting additional breast procedures like breast lift if you have saggy breasts. Consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon will help you understand whether you need the implant replacement or not. During your meeting, your surgeon will discuss the surgical plan with you. Dr. Bloch from Body by Bloch in the Chicago metro area can safely perform the procedure for you. Book a consultation with Dr. Bloch at www.bodybybloch.com.

What happens during a breast revision?

A Breast revision procedure is performed in a hospital or in an accredited surgical facility under anesthesia. After the anesthesia takes effect, Dr. Bloch may decide to use various techniques to give you better results. Original incisions may be used to remove or to replace the new breast implant. The pocket for the new implant may also be relocated over or below the pectoral muscle. For a change of implant size, the existing pocket may be enlarged or reduced to accommodate the new size. An implant may be removed completely together with the surrounding tissue if you wish to have implants permanently removed. After needed correction is achieved, your incisions will be stitched. Drains may also be placed to drain your incision. Your breasts will then be dressed with gauze and you will be required to wear a surgical bra for about 6 weeks.

What are my options?

Good communication with your plastic surgeon is the key to achieving the results you want. It is your job to clearly state your aesthetic goals so your surgeon can suggest the right options. During your consultation, you and your surgeon will resolve these issues:

  • What type of implant will be used?
    • Saline-filled breast implants are filled with sterile salt water. They may be prefilled at a predetermined size or filled at the time of surgery to allow for minor modifications in implant size.
    • Silicone-filled breast implants are filled with soft, elastic gel and are available in a variety of shapes. All silicone breast implants are prefilled and may require a longer incision for implant placement.
    • Cohesive gel silicone implants, also known as “gummy bear” or “form stable” implants, are filled with a cohesive gel, made of crosslinked molecules of silicone, which makes them a bit thicker and firmer than traditional silicone implants. This enables them to hold their shape better. Approved by the FDA for use in the United States in 2013, these implants have been available in much of the world since 1992.

How is breast revision recovery?

Breast recovery period may take same time as the initial breast augmentation. Recovery will however differ among individuals. You will be provided with medications which include pain killers and antibiotics to give you a smooth recovery. Drains and bandages will be removed in the first week after surgery. You need to rest on your back and you can shower normally after 3 days when drains are removed. You can go to work after about 10 days but stay away from strenuous activities. Swelling, tightness or change in sensation will disappear after about a month. Your breasts will settle in place after several weeks or even months but the results will be pleasing. Breast revision combined with breast lift may has a prolonged recovery.

Maintenance

Breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime. You may need to have the implants replaced if you have complications or if the size and shape of your breasts change over time.

Women who have silicone gel-filled implants will need to get an MRI scan three years after the implant surgery and then MRI scans about every two years to check for silent rupture. If your implants rupture, you will need to have them removed or replaced.

Having breast implants can make it more difficult to get a mammogram, but special X-ray views can be done. There is a chance breast implants may make you more likely to get breast cancer. Breast implants also may make it harder for you to breastfeed.
