Facelift Surgery for Correction of Facial Aging Signs

Facelift Surgery for Correction of Facial Aging Signs

When aging signs showing on your midface area become a bother, you may want to consider having a facelift to restore your youthful looks with longer lasting results. Facelift, technically known as rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that corrects aging signs like wrinkles around the eyes of the folds running from the nose to the mouth. The procedure also gets rid of sagging skin and excess fat from the face, chin and the neck areas. The results you will get will depend on the experience of the doctor performing the surgery. It is also very important to find a board certified plastic surgeon with proven credentials because every surgery has its own risks. Dr. Bloch is a board certified plastic surgeon in Chicago and has over 30 years of experience performing plastic surgeries with great outcomes for his patients. You can request for your consultation with the Facelift Chicago surgeon at www.bodybybloch.com.

Diagnosis/Preparation

Prior to the procedure, candidates meet with the surgeon to discuss the procedure, clarify the results that can be achieved, and the potential problems that can occur. Having realistic expectations is important in any cosmetic procedure. People will learn, for example, that although a face lift can improve the contour of the face and neck, other procedures will be necessary to reduce the appearance of many wrinkles. Candidates will be advised to stop taking aspirin , birth control pills or female hormones, and other medications affecting blood clotting two weeks before the procedure. Some physicians prescribe vitamin C and K to promote healing. Candidates are advised to stop smoking and to avoid exposure to passive smoke at least two weeks before and after the procedure. Some surgeons also recommend taking antibiotics prior to surgery to limit the risk of infection. Often a steroid injection is administered before or after the procedure to reduce swelling.

How your facelift will be performed
You will be put under general anesthesia for your comfort during the surgery. The doctor will then make an incision from the temples running around your ears and then into the hairline at the backside. From the incision, the surgeon then lifts the skin on your face towards the cheeks, chin and the neck. That provides access to the underlying tissues and muscles which the doctor repositions as required. Excess fat may be excised or removed through liposuction. The surgeon will then reposition the facial skin towards the incision and trim away the excess part of it before closing the incision. Bandages or the appropriate dressings will then be applied and before leaving the facility will be given specific instructions to care for your surgical sites until you fully recover. Your recovery time will depend on the surgical technique used how extensive the incisions are made. Medications are prescribed to manage pain and promote faster recover without the risk of infections.

FACELIFT RESULTS WILL BE LONG-LASTING

It may take several months for swelling to fully dissipate and up to 6 months for incision lines to mature.

Life-long sun protection will help to maintain your rejuvenated appearance by minimizing photo-aging or sun damage. In addition, a healthy lifestyle will also help extend the results of your rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.
