If aging has caused wrinkles, deep folds or even sagging skin on your lower face, you may need a facelift surgery to restore your youthful appearance. Facelift is also known as rhytidectomy in medical terms. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure which is performed to correct wrinkles around your eyes or between the nose and the mouth corners. During the surgery, excess fat is excised away while muscles tissues of the face are tightened. You need a board certified plastic surgeon to perform the procedure if you want to achieve great results with risks minimized for your safety. Dr. Bloch is an expert in plastic surgery and has over 30 years of experience. Book a consultation online at www.bodybybloch.com and during your consultation you will be given available options to help achieve your goals.
The purpose of face-lift surgery is to improve the appearance of the face by repositioning the skin and tightening some of the underlying muscle and tissue. The procedure is designed to counter sagging and looseness in skin and muscle tissue that becomes more pronounced as individuals age. Face-lift surgery will not eliminate all facial wrinkles. For example, wrinkles around the mouth and eyes may benefit little from face-lift surgery. Also, additional procedures including blepharoplasty , chemical peel, botox injections, or dermabrasion may be necessary to achieve desired results.
Who is a good facelift candidate?
You must be in good health to be considered a good facelift surgery. During the consultation stage, Dr. Bloch will discuss your medical history with you and may order medical tests to make you do not have any medical conditions that can potentially impair healing after surgery. A smoker doesn’t make a good candidate, so if you smoke the doctor will ask you to stop it for several weeks before and after surgery. You should also have realistic expectations of what the facelift can achieve for you.
How is the surgery performed?
You will be placed under either general anesthesia or local anesthesia for your comfort during the facelift surgery. the traditional facelift involves making an incision from the temples running down the hairline and around the ears then back to the hairline at the backside. The doctor lifts the skin from your face towards the cheeks, chin, and the neck. The underlying muscle tissues are tightened and excess fat removed through excision or liposuction. The skin is then pulled back into place and the excess part of it trimmed away along the incision. The surgeon then closes the incision and applies bandages or dressings properly.
Your face will be bandaged after the surgery. The dressings are usually removed 1 to 2 days later. If a drainage tube has been placed (usually behind the ear), it will also be removed 1 to 2 days after the surgery. Your doctor will remove your stitchesin 5 to 10 days. Your doctor may prescribe medicines to relieve pain after the surgery. Expect to have swelling and bruising of the face. Cold compresses can help relieve these side effects. Your doctor may instruct you to keep your head elevated and still as much as possible.
