Radiesse Around The Eyes

Radiesse Around The Eyes

Calcium hydroxylapatite is the generic name given to Radiesse. This is one of the several dermal fillers used in cosmetic medicine to fill up wrinkles and add volume to improve the appearance of skin. Dermal fillers like Radiesse are non-invasive and produce immediate results. Calcium hydroxylapatite can be used on the face, neck as well as the hands. Aging makes the skin to wrinkle or fold as levels of elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid which give skin its support reduce. This dermal filler is sometimes used around the eyes to eliminate severe wrinkles. A qualified plastic surgeon or physician can administer the volumizing dermal filler. This is one of the many non-invasive cosmetic procedures offered by the renowned Chicago plastic surgeon Dr. Bloch.

What to think about

If you have a lot of herpes zoster or herpes simplex outbreaks, a filler injection could trigger a flare-up. If you have several herpes outbreaks a year, your doctor will want you to take an antiviral medicine before having a filler injection.

Each syringe of filler costs several hundred dollars. Costs vary, depending on the type of filler. Talk to your doctor ahead of time about how many you will use, how often, and at what cost. Health insurance is unlikely to pay for this treatment.

How is Radiesse given?

Radiesse gives your skin immediate volume. Like with many dermal fillers, you may be given local anesthesia to ease pain before your doctor injects you with Radiesse. Treatment will last for about 15 minutes. To treat wrinkles under your eyes, a physician will use a thin needle to inject the Calcium hydroxylapatite. Radiesse will add volume to skin and reduce signs of aging. The dermal filler does not only act as a scaffold under your skin but stimulates more production of natural collagen. Growth of more collagen continues for several months even after having the injection. This gives you a rejuvenated supple look under the eyes. Dr. Bloch advises his patients to come back for checkups after the initial dermal filler injection.

Radiesse safety information

Radiesse is contraindicated:

  • for patients with a history of anaphylaxis, or a history or presence of multiple severe allergies
  • in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components
  • in patients with bleeding disorders

Radiesse Warnings

  • Defer treatment in patients with active skin inflammation or infection near treatment area.
  • Avoid injection into blood vessels.
  • Do not overfill a contour deficiency as depression should improve within several weeks.
  • The safety and efficacy of Radiesse for lip augmentation has not been established. Lip nodules associated with the use of Radiesse in the lip area have been reported.

Recovery

Immediately after your Radiesse injection, you may experience some bruising and minimal swelling on areas of your injection. Dr. Bloch may recommend use of cold compress or ice pack to minimize swelling. Most of the swelling will however disappear within a week and will not last for more than 10 days unless you have a serious complication which should medically be addressed. Your doctor will also advise you on abnormal signs to watch out for on injected sites during your recovery period. Radiesse is one of the soft tissue fillers that have lasting results. Repeat injections can be done after several months but you will eventually need no further treatments as collagen growth will maintain your skin wrinkle-free.
