If you have a stable weight but bothered by your bulging abdomen and excess skin not responding to exercise or healthy diet, tummy tuck, clinically known as abdominoplasty can help you out.
What is a tummy tuck?
Tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure performed surgically to eliminate extra fat tissue and skin on the abdominal area. The procedure also tightens weak abdominal muscles which bulge out due to increased laxity. Abdominoplasty is done under general anesthesia and both women and men can consider this aesthetic procedure. A board-certified plastic surgeon should perform the procedure for you if you are looking forward to achieving your aesthetic goals and be safe during and after the procedure. Board-certified plastic surgeons operate from hospitals, accredited or state licensed surgical facilities. Dr. Bloch is a world-class plastic surgeon from Chicago who operates at Body by Bloch. The surgeon has over 30 years experience in cosmetic surgery. Set a consultation online with Dr. Bloch at Body by Bloch.
The mini tummy tuck, or partial abdominoplasty, is often an excellent option for people who have a small amount of abdominal skin to be removed and do not have a significantly protruding abdominal muscle wall. Individuals whose abdominal area is beginning to sag due to aging or who have slim abdomens that they wish to sculpt into a more desirable shape may find that a mini tummy tuck is ideal for them.
What should I expect during a tummy tuck?
Admission of general anesthesia that puts you to sleep is the first step in abdominoplasty procedure. To correct your abdominal bulginess, your surgeon makes a long cut below your navel which runs from one hip to the other one. Next, fat tissue and skin are excised. Lax muscles are also tightened with sutures. In traditional or full abdominoplasty, your navel position will likely change and is relocated. Dr. Bloch will then place tiny drainage tubes to drain your incision. The cut is then closed with stitches and dressed with gauze.
How will the recovery be?
You will be put under observation after surgery for 1 to 3 days. Walking is much recommended after you are stable enough to prevent blood clots in your legs. Pain will be experienced after anesthesia wears off but is easily controlled with pain medication. Antibiotics that prevent infection on your wound and immune system are also provided. Dr. Bloch’s instructions for his abdominoplasty patients include care for drains and bandages which are removed within the first week following surgery. You will also be advised to watch out for danger signs on your surgery sites and in your general health. You can resume work after 10 days, but you strictly need to stay away from strenuous activities for about 6-8 weeks.
A flat tummy appearance will be noticed after one week. Your incision scar will not fade but will remain hidden in clothes.
