If you look in the mirror and hate that bump on your nose, then you can consider having rhinoplasty. This is cosmetic plastic surgery done to improve the appearance of the nose and make it in proportion to the rest of your face. Nose surgery can also be very useful for people with breathing problems. A board-certified plastic surgeon can perform the procedure for you safely and improve your look. Computer simulation may be used to determine the new nose shape that will match the look of your face. If you are in Chicago or visiting the area, you can arrange for an consultation meeting with Dr. Bloch. Dr. Bloch is a board-certified plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience in cosmetic surgery.
If you choose to have local anesthesia, be prepared for the sounds of your doctor working on the bones and cartilage of your nose.
One of the prominent features of the face, the nose can have a big impact on your self-image and appearance. If you’re unhappy with your nose and have been so for a long time, rhinoplasty is a reasonable option to consider. As with other cosmetic procedures, you are more likely to be happy with the results of rhinoplasty if you have clear, realistic expectations about what the surgery can achieve and if you share these with your plastic surgeon.

The first step in rhinoplasty is an admission of anesthesia. Once the anesthesia takes effect, your surgeon will make inconspicuous incisions under your nose or inside the nose to access the bones and cartilage. Dr. Bloch will then reduce your nose cartilage or bone. Sometimes these tissues may be added with natural tissues form other parts of the body or synthetic fillers. Next, the underlying tissues are contoured in place before the skin is redraped and closed with sutures. The nasal splint will then be placed outside your nose to support its new structure. You will be given post-operative instructions on how to care for your nose.
During your rhinoplasty recovery, a splint and/or packing will likely be placed inside your nose and a splint or bandages placed on the outside to support and protect the new structures during initial healing. While initial swelling subsides within a few weeks, it may take up to a year for your new nasal contour to fully refine. During this time you may notice gradual changes in the appearance of your nose as it refines to a more permanent outcome.
Swelling may come and go and worsen in the morning during the first year following your rhinoplasty surgery. You will be given specific instructions that may include:
