Confidence Looks Good on You

Why Choose Body by Bloch for breast augmentation?

If you’re considering an appointment to discuss breast augmentation, you’re in great company. More and more women decide to pursue this procedure in the U.S. each year. When deciding if you are going to have the procedure done, there are many things to consider. We hope that we can help you better understand the different variables that go into having the surgery. However, one of the largest factors that will impact your choice is the surgeon who will be performing your breast surgery.

We implore you to do your own research, gather all the facts, and make an informed decision. There are going to be things that each person considering the procedure will be looking for—what’s important to one person may not be important to another. However, we feel that the one factor that should be at the top of everyone's mind is whether the surgeon is board-certified or not. By making sure the doctor who will be performing your Highland Park breast augmentation is a board-certified plastic surgeon, you are taking great steps to make sure you are getting a highly qualified doctor who has been confirmed as an individual who not only knows what they are doing but also has been certified as someone who can be trusted as a safe, knowledgeable doctor.

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation technology continually advances, providing patients with versatile options for achieving a beautiful result that flatters their unique body proportions. At Body by Bloch, we offer VECTRA 3D imaging to help you visualize the results of various implant sizes and styles.

Presently there are two types of implants—saline or silicone—and various styles. As part of your consultation, Dr. Bloch will discuss these options and advise you on what’s most appropriate for your body. He will update you on all the options available and answer any questions.

Here, we delve into the various types of implants and surgical techniques used to tailor your perfect enhancement.

Breast Implant Materials

At Body by Bloch, we offer two primary types of breast implants:

Saline implants. These implants are filled with sterile salt water. They are inserted empty and then filled once in place, allowing for smaller incisions. Saline implants offer a firm feel and are an excellent option for women who prefer smaller incisions. In case of a rupture, the body easily absorbs the saline solution.

Silicone implants. Filled with a cohesive silicone gel, these implants mimic the feel of natural breast tissue more closely than saline implants. They come pre-filled and may require a slightly larger incision. Silicone implants are a popular choice due to their natural appearance and texture.

Breast Implant Profiles

Breast implant profiles determine how far the implant projects from the chest, influencing the overall silhouette and contour. The main profiles available include:

Low profile. These implants have a wider base and less projection, providing a subtle enhancement. They are suitable for women with a wider chest frame.

Moderate profile. Offering a balance between width and projection, moderate profile implants are the most commonly chosen option. They provide a natural look and are versatile for various body types.

High profile. High-profile implants have a narrower base and greater projection, making them ideal for women seeking a more dramatic enhancement.

Breast Implant Incision Locations

The location of the incision is an important aspect of the breast augmentation procedure. Dr. Bloch will discuss the following options to determine which is best for you:

Inframammary incision. Located in the crease under the breast, this incision provides good access for precise implant placement and allows for larger implants if desired. It is the most commonly used incision and generally results in well-hidden scars.

Periareolar incision. This incision is made around the edge of the areola. It allows for a more discreet scar but may not be suitable for women with smaller areolas or those planning to breastfeed in the future.

Transaxillary incision. Located in the armpit, this incision leaves no scar on the breast itself. It requires specialized techniques and may limit the size and type of implant that can be used.

Breast Implant Placement

Choosing the placement of the implant is another important decision. The two main options are:

Subglandular placement. The implant is placed directly behind the breast tissue but above the chest muscle. This placement may offer a quicker recovery and less discomfort initially. It is suitable for women with adequate natural breast tissue to cover the implant.

Submuscular placement. The implant is placed beneath the chest muscle. This placement tends to result in a more natural contour, especially in women with less natural breast tissue. It also reduces the risk of certain complications, such as capsular contracture, and may make mammograms easier to interpret.

Dr. Bloch will work closely with you to determine the best choices for your body type, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals.

Lift and Enhance

Breast Augmentation With Lift

Aging, gravity, and diminished skin elasticity take a toll on the breasts. Many experience breast sagging over time and desire more youthful elevation. A breast augmentation combined with a breast lift can provide the desired enhancement and address sagging or asymmetry. Dr. Bloch will tailor your procedure to achieve a youthful and natural look.

Experience Meets Artistry

How is the surgery done?

Breast augmentation is typically performed as an outpatient procedure while the patient is asleep under general anesthesia. Dr. Bloch will surgically insert an implant behind each breast. The implants can then be inserted through an incision in the lower fold of the chest, under the areola, or in the armpit. Depending on your body characteristics, Dr. Bloch may recommend that the implants are placed either in front of or behind the chest muscle. Within reason, the size that you feel is right for you can usually be achieved. The implant surface may be smooth or textured.

Renew Your Body Confidence

Breast Augmentation Recovery—What happens after your augmentation procedure?

After surgery, you will wear a surgical brassiere and can usually shower the next day. Various activities, especially strenuous exercise, may be restricted for two or three weeks following surgery. However, many patients are able to return to light activities within about a week of their procedure. Swelling or discoloration will occur but will soon disappear. Dr. Bloch will provide detailed aftercare instructions and check your healing at post-operative appointments. Understanding that the recovery stage is an essential part of the breast augmentation process, our team remains fully available to discuss any questions or concerns during this time.

Live Life to the Fullest

Breast Augmentation Results

Patients typically see initial results immediately after surgery, with final results becoming apparent as swelling decreases over the next few months. Breast augmentation results can last many years, providing a lasting enhancement. Regular check-ups and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can prolong the results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Breast implants are designed to be long-lasting but may need replacement after 10-15 years.

Many women can breastfeed after breast augmentation. Your chances of breastfeeding successfully can depend on the type of surgery and implant placement. If you are planning to breastfeed in the future, you should discuss this with Dr. Bloch during your consultation.

Some degree of scarring is inevitable with breast augmentation. However, Dr. Bloch uses advanced techniques to minimize scarring, and most incisions are placed in inconspicuous areas. Good scar management helps the scars blend in and fade over time.

Costs vary based on the type of implants and specific surgical requirements. Our office team can provide a detailed quote during your consultation.

Any surgical procedure carries certain risks, such as infection, poor reaction to anesthesia, or an unsatisfactory result. Breast augmentation with implants comes with the risk of implant rupture and capsular contracture—a condition where a thick capsule of scar tissue builds up around the implant, causing discomfort or deformity. Dr. Bloch will go over these risks with you and educate you about the signs of a complication so that it can be addressed promptly. It is very important to work with a board-certified surgeon and follow aftercare instructions carefully to minimize the risk of complications.

Our advanced VECTRA 3D Imaging System helps you visualize different sizes and shapes to make an informed decision.

If a saline implant ruptures, the body absorbs the saline. If a silicone implant ruptures, it may remain in the implant shell or leak into the breast implant pocket. Regular check-ups can help detect and address any issues.
