Liposuction

Liposuction is also known as Lipoplasty, and is an body sculpting procedure that has been performed in the United States since 1983. Liposuction expert Dr. Bloch was one of the early pioneers of this procedure in the Midwest.

The procedure has evolved over the years. The State Of Art, at present, is known as Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction. A large volume of very dilute local anesthetic is injected into the area to be sculpted. The fluid acts as a transmission medium for the ultrasound. The ultrasound device is then introduced, and the fat cells are imploded or melted. A fine cannula is then inserted, and the liquefied fat is aspirated. Large volumes of fat can be safely removed with very little blood loss and with far less internal trauma than any other presently available method.

Am I a good candidate?

You may be a good candidate if:

  • Are you near your normal weight?
  • Do you have some pockets of fat and regardless of what you do it won’t budge?
  • Is your skin tone in relatively good shape?
  • You have expected results that are reasonable and good?

The Procedure

This surgical technique is effective for removing fatty deposits most commonly found on the hips, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, arms, face, neck and legs, leaving a slimmer body contour.

Recovery

A few small needle sticks are made in the area to be treated. Since no sutures are required, visible scarring is virtually eliminated, and most patients experience remarkably little bruising. There is some post-operative drainage for a day or two. An absorbent compression garment is used for approximately a week in order to promote skin shrinkage.

Patients can return to work in a day or two, and can begin exercising in one week.

After your procedure, Dr. Bloch might fit you with a compression garment to wear for a few weeks. The garment is comfortable and will help keep swelling under control.

You can expect to be sore for several days to a week following liposuction. If your work involves light activity, you can plan to return to it in just a few days.

If your skin has lost elasticity, Dr. Bloch may recommend a skin tightening procedure in lieu of liposuction, or he may recommend liposuction in conjunction with endermologie treatments following the procedure.
