Breast Lift

Over the course of time, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, aging or weight loss, and the force of gravity, take their toll. As the skin loses its elasticity, your bust often loses shape and firmness and begins to sag. A breast lift is a breast surgery also known as Mastopexy, is a procedure to lift and reshape your sagging bust. Many women who are considering having a lift have many questions about where to start, what to expect and how to choose a doctor.

There are many things you will need to understand before you make a choice about the procedure. While many of theses things are personal decisions you will need to make for yourself, there are also things that you will want to know that can be answered by either doing internet research or speaking to your physician.

  • Do you want to get an Augmentation with your lift?
  • Are there complimentary procedures you should consider doing at the same time to improve the effects of the lift?
  • How long does it take to have a Mastopexy?

About the procedure

The surgeon relocates the nipple and areola (the pink skin around the nipple) to a higher position, removes excess skin, repositions the tissue to a higher level and then reshapes the remaining skin.

If your bust is small or you have lost volume after pregnancy, implants in conjunction with a lift can increase both firmness and size. Your bust will be somewhat swollen and bruised at first and it may take some time before they assume their more permanent shape. In other words, they have to settle in. You may experience some decreased sensation in your nipples or skin, which is usually temporary.

Recovery

Most patients go home in a support bra after getting a lift. The sutures will be removed in a week or two. Since incisions are made around the nipple and below the bust, scars should not be noticeable, even in low-cut clothing.

Dr. Steven Bloch M.D. can discuss your surgical options and will give you detailed instructions for resuming your normal activities.
