Are you bothered by stubborn fat pockets under your skin that are not going away even after observing regular exercise and healthy eating? If you are in such a situation, liposuction could help you. Liposuction also known as lipo, is a cosmetic procedure that eliminates unwanted fat pockets between the skin and muscle tissue in different areas of the body with the help of devices called cannulas. A cannula is a tube that is connected to a suction pump which is inserted through tiny incisions made on the skin. Through the incisions, the cannula reaches the fat layers to dislodge and remove fat. Areas where fat has been removed collapse and, therefore, create an improved body contour. Areas that can be corrected with liposuction include cheeks, chin, neck, chest, upper arms, hips, abdomen, waist, back, buttocks, thighs, inner knees, calves and ankles. Liposuction is not a weight loss alternative. The procedure can be combined with other cosmetic procedures such as facelift, breast reduction or abdominoplasty. The procedure should be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Bloch is a board-certified plastic surgeon from the Chicago metro area and performs liposuction. Consultation with Dr. Bloch will inform you if you are a suitable liposuction candidate. To book a consultation call 1-847-0840 or go to www.bodybybloch.com.

Be sure to ask questions. To help, we have prepared a checklist of questions to ask your liposuction surgeon that you can take with you to your consultation.
It’s very important to understand all aspects of your liposuction procedure. It’s natural to feel some anxiety, whether it’s excitement for your anticipated new look or a bit of preoperative stress. Don’t be shy about discussing these feelings with your plastic surgeon.
How is liposuction performed?
Liposuction is performed in a hospital or in an accredited surgical facility. Before your procedure begins, Dr. Bloch will give you local or general anesthesia. After anesthesia, your plastic surgeon will make a tiny incision in the area to be treated. Through the incision, a cannula connected to a syringe will be inserted. Back and forth movements may be made to dislodge fat. Fat may also be loosened with medicinal liquids injected into the fatty area. Fat removal will, however, employ different procedures depending on your condition or the choice of your plastic surgeon. After fat is dislodged, it is suctioned out with the syringe or cannula via powerful suction power. Tiny incisions may be placed beneath the skin to drain out any accumulating fluids. Next, your incisions will be stitched and dressed. A compression pad and postoperative cushions are then placed followed wrapping with an elastic garment around your body to help in the contouring process.
What recovery can I expect after liposuction?
You need the help of someone to drive you home after the North Shore liposuction procedure. Dr. Bloch will give you instructions regarding care for your drains and bandages. You will also be advised to report any signs of danger on your surgical sites and in your general health. Swelling and pain are normal and may persist for several weeks. Prescribed pain medication will, however, help you cope. Antibiotics and creams to control bruising will also be prescribed. After a few months, you will have a pleasant contour on the treated area that will match the proportion of your body. Maintaining a good relationship with your plastic surgeon will ensure that you recover well.
